Who We Are
Solid Grounds Ministries, Inc. (SGM), a Tennessee non-profit organization. Incorporated in the state of Tennessee in May 2006, an organization committed to providing financial assistance to those in need. To-date support have been provided to widows, individuals, organizations, and educational support for several children in different countries around the world. Furthermore, SGM is a non-profit organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3), therefore contributions are deductible to the extent permitted by law.
SGM is hosting the “50-by-50” fundraiser initiative for Basil’s 50th birthday in June 2022. To raise a minimum of $50,000, hence 50-by-50.
Our Story
As I reflect on my life this year, I continue to realize how much the living God has blessed me, my family, and my lineage, and I am overwhelmed and in awe of his goodness and favor to us.
In 2022, I turn 50! I feel the LORD wants me to use the time that is usually set aside to celebrate a major milestone as a time to focus on the less privileged. For background, I was born with a heart defect that was discovered at 10 days after birth at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics.
Due to lack of training on infant heart surgery at the time, my heart defect surgery was delayed. My family relocated to Nigeria when I was two (2) years old, and the heart defect was later corrected in 1981 (age 8.5years) at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London England because there was no institution in Nigeria that could perform the surgery.
To celebrate my 50th birthday, my family and I would like to be in an underfunded country, preferably in the African Continent, assisting volunteer cardiologists by raising money that would help fund their trip to perform heart surgeries for children in need.

Our Partners
To achieve this goal, my family and I are partnering with the International Children’s Heart Foundation and Novick Cardiac Alliance based in Memphis, Tennessee to provide heart surgeries in 2022.
The mission of the International Children’s Heart Foundation (ICHF) is to bring the skills, technology, and knowledge to developing nations to cure and care for children with congenital heart disease. ICHF does this regardless of country of origin, race, religion or gender of the child, with a goal to make the need for ICHF obsolete. ICHF works towards this goal through medical mission trips where they operate on children and educate local healthcare professionals.
In operation since 1993, ICHF assembles volunteer medical teams from around the world to provide free pediatric cardiac surgeries, training, and medical resources to countries without access to them. They also implement their collaborative teaching curriculum by operating with and educating local healthcare professionals in their own hospitals. With this training, the local teams gradually acquire the skills to care for their children independently.
ICHF travels to countries where children with congenital heart defects have no options. In 27 years, they have operated on over 7,500 children in 33 countries on 5 continents.
ICHF strives to build sustainable pediatric programs by operating with and educating local healthcare professionals in their own hospitals. ICHF also assists with providing medication, equipment, and resources as needed to help with organizational change in the centers of which they assist others.

Our Next Step
My family plans to travel with ICHF in 2022. During that trip, ICHF will be performing at least 10 heart surgeries and numerous health care assessments. With adequate support, we believe and trust that we can pivot from a one-time initiative to help build an ongoing collaboration that we hope will someday build a world children’s heart center serving underprivileged children in the Continent of Africa.
